Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions, has hinted at a potentially exciting all-British boxing match between Ryan Garner and Reece Bellotti.
Both super-featherweight boxers have recently delivered impressive performances, and the prospect of a match between fighters from Matchroom and Queensberry is becoming increasingly realistic.
Garner, with a record of 17-0 (8 KOs), expressed interest in fighting for the British and Commonwealth titles after claiming the European title by defeating Salvador Jimenez by unanimous decision.
The fight took place in Bournemouth, England, last Saturday, marking Garner’s, a Southampton native, first fight on the south coast in nearly eight years.
Although Jimenez was not very active, Garner dominated all 12 rounds, reflected in the judges’ scorecards.
Bellotti, 20-5 (15 KOs), in turn, secured a confident tenth-round TKO victory over Michael Gomez Jr. last month, successfully defending his Lonsdale belt for the third time.
The 34-year-old Bellotti has secured six wins since losing to former world champion Raymond Ford in 2021, and now prefers a more measured approach, not seeking to finish every fight early.
Thus, Bellotti, holding two prestigious titles, seems like an attractive option for Garner.
The 27-year-old Garner’s promoter, Warren, has promised his fighter a world title fight, but also sees great value in a potential British showdown.
Given that Bellotti is associated with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, their fight could be part of a second 5v5 tournament between these promotional companies.
Warren noted that he likes the idea of a Garner vs. Bellotti fight, calling it interesting for fans. He added that Queensberry Promotions will discuss the possibility of organizing this fight with Matchroom, emphasizing that a British derby between fighters from different promotional companies always generates extra excitement.
