Promoter Frank Warren is exploring the possibility of arranging Derek Chisora`s 50th professional boxing match against an opponent he has previously faced.
Chisora, whose record stands at 36 wins (23 by knockout) and 13 losses, completed his 49th bout in February, securing a 12-round points victory over Otto Wallin in Manchester. This win, achieved in an IBF title eliminator, also positioned the 41-year-old veteran as the mandatory challenger for the IBF world title currently held by Daniel Dubois.
Chisora now finds himself among a group of mandatory challengers that includes Agit Kabayel for the WBC title and Joseph Parker for the WBO belt. Joseph Parker has previously defeated Chisora twice, and Warren is now considering the potential for a third meeting between the two fighters.
“If we can make it, we will try,” Warren stated. He added, “But obviously, it`s all up to Derek. He`s the IBF mandatory challenger and that`s where he`s at. It`s got to be his choice but Chisora against Parker is a bloody good fight.”
Chisora is currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak, but Parker`s recent run of victories is double that. The New Zealander impressively defeated late-notice opponent Martin Bakole in just two rounds back in February, extending his winning streak to six consecutive bouts. Parker, with a professional record of 36 wins (24 by knockout) and 3 losses, had been originally scheduled to challenge Daniel Dubois for the IBF world title, but illness forced the British fighter to withdraw during fight week.
Parker`s career has seen significant progress since he began working with trainer Andy Lee. Notable opponents Parker has overcome since joining forces with the Irish trainer include Martin Bakole, Zhilei Zhang, and Deontay Wilder. The 33-year-old fighter is hoping to compete again this summer as he awaits a potential world title opportunity against the winner of the undisputed heavyweight championship bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, scheduled for July 19th at Wembley Stadium.
