Floyd Schofield’s Father Criticizes Eddie Hearn After Son’s Withdrawal from Shakur Stevenson Fight

Floyd Schofield Sr. has expressed strong disapproval of Eddie Hearn’s comments after the Matchroom Boxing promoter suggested that his son was experiencing difficulties with weight management prior to the cancelled bout against Shakur Stevenson.

Stevenson, undefeated with a record of 22-0 (10 KOs), was scheduled to defend his WBC lightweight title this weekend against the promising but relatively untested Floyd Schofield in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

However, Schofield was forced to withdraw from the fight after being hospitalized due to an illness that developed during fight week. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC), the official governing body overseeing the event, ultimately made the decision to remove him from the card.

When Schofield, who holds an 18-0 (22 KOs) record, failed to appear at the grand arrivals, Stevenson’s promoter Hearn began voicing his concerns to various media outlets. Hearn suggested that the 22-year-old’s absence was due to struggles with meeting the BBBC’s check weigh-in requirements for his first title fight at 135 pounds.

In response, Schofield Sr., who manages his son’s social media accounts, posted a video on Instagram showing Schofield in a hospital bed. He then took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Hearn of being dishonest, insisting that further evidence of his son’s condition would be forthcoming.

“People will regret their assumptions when they see the proof,” Schofield Sr. stated on X. “There’s a fear of Floyd, and this has only increased his determination. Karma is very real… All will be revealed in due time. We’re looking forward to returning to Texas and moving on to the next fight. The boxing industry is incredibly unscrupulous at this level.”

As of now, Stevenson has not secured a replacement opponent, although undefeated lightweight contender Josh Padley has been mentioned as a potential candidate. Padley, coming off a significant upset victory over Mark Chamberlain last September, is currently ranked 12th in the WBC lightweight rankings.
