Johnny Fisher is focused on delivering a more refined and well-rested performance when he steps into the ring against David Allen for their rematch, headlining the card at the Copper Box this Saturday.
Their initial encounter, a dramatic split decision victory for Fisher (scored 95-94, 93-96, 95-94) where he was knocked down in the fifth round, unexpectedly sparked a notable rivalry. While the 33-year-old Allen produced one of the standout displays of his career, the 13-0 (11 KOs) Fisher feels he has significantly developed since their December clash.
Reflecting on his preparation for the upcoming fight, Fisher stated, “We trained very hard, I was very fit but just rest-wise and everything in the build-up… I was meant to fight in August then it was September then I tore my bicep. You can’t train like that for so long and this time I’ve had a nice rest. Now training in Fuerteventura I’ve conditioned myself well with the sparring. I’m just a fresher man. I can see it.”
The 26-year-old Fisher mentioned the possibility of securing an early win but also acknowledged he is fully prepared for another challenging battle against Allen, whose record stands at 23-7-2 with 18 knockouts.
He further elaborated on what he expects to be different this time: “I’m a fan-friendly fighter and people want to see two big blokes going at in the ring as hard as they can. I just think that bit of freshness, tightening everything up and the way that I go about the work. A bit cleaner, a bit tighter, I think that’s going to be the difference.”
