Torrez Finney`s first UFC fight was certainly memorable, though perhaps not for the reasons he might have hoped.

After competing three times on the Contender Series, Finney finally stepped into the UFC octagon on Saturday, opening the UFC Vegas 105 main card. His fight against Robert Valentin immediately raised eyebrows.

Finney`s strategy, focused heavily on wrestling, didn`t impress everyone in the MMA community. Some fighters even took to social media to express their criticism. However, the real controversy erupted after the fight concluded. The official scorecards declared Finney the winner by split decision, with two judges scoring the bout 29-28 in his favor. In contrast, judge Tony Weeks controversially scored all three rounds for Valentin.

This decision was widely questioned, considering Finney`s grappling effectively shut down Valentin`s offensive attempts, even if Finney didn`t create much offense himself. Many fighters openly criticized Weeks`s judging.

“Fire that judge on sight,” commented Corey Anderson on Twitter, echoing the sentiment of many.
