Everton Manager Celebrates Thrilling Finish in Final Goodison Park Derby Against Liverpool
Everton boss David Moyes reveled in the excitement of the Merseyside derby, as a late equalizer kept the Premier League title race alive according to analyst Tim Sherwood.
James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 98th minute goal to secure a 2-2 draw for Everton against Liverpool in the last derby to be played at Goodison Park. The match ended in chaotic scenes, with fans rushing onto the pitch and several red cards issued after the final whistle.
“It was mayhem throughout, like an old-fashioned throwback,” Moyes said. “The atmosphere was electric all night. This has always been a difficult place for opponents, but it’s fantastic when the crowd gets behind us.”
The late equalizer means Liverpool’s lead over second-place Arsenal remains at 7 points rather than 9. Sherwood believes this keeps the title race competitive: “Seven points is still a big gap, but nine would have been too much. This result keeps it alive.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant were sent off for confronting the referee after the match. Players Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were also dismissed for a scuffle near the away fans.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk expressed disappointment at conceding late: “This is like their cup final and they made it very difficult. It’s a boost for them and a blow for us.”
The dramatic finish provided a fitting end to the final derby at Goodison Park before Everton’s planned stadium move, keeping both the local rivalry and title race intriguingly poised.
