Eubank Jr. Hit with $129,000 Fine for Egg Prank on Benn

Sports news » Eubank Jr. Hit with $129,000 Fine for Egg Prank on Benn

Boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has been penalized financially for his actions involving Conor Benn.

At a press event promoting their anticipated boxing match, Eubank caused controversy by slapping Benn with an egg during a face-to-face encounter.

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) reacted strongly to Eubank’s behavior, issuing him a £100,000 fine, equivalent to approximately $129,000.

According to a statement from the BBBoC, following a hearing, Eubank Jr. was found in violation of conduct regulations at the press conference held in Manchester on April 26, 2025, for the bout against Conor Benn.

The Board’s officials determined that a £100,000 fine was the appropriate consequence.

Both Eubank and Benn come from boxing families, with their fathers having had a famous rivalry in the early 1990s.

Their own match was initially scheduled for 2022 but was postponed after Benn tested positive for a banned substance.

Benn later had his suspension overturned, claiming that consuming excessive eggs contributed to the positive drug test. Eubank referenced this claim by using an egg at the press conference.

Eubank defended his actions, stating that throwing an egg was a mild and deserved response to someone who blamed contaminated eggs for a failed drug test.

He further added that he believed Benn deserved the embarrassment and would repeat the action if given the chance.

Eubank and Benn are still scheduled to fight on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
