According to Eddie Hearn, a highly anticipated boxing clash between Jesse Rodriguez and Fernando Martinez could be imminent. These two super-flyweight champions, known for their exciting, aggressive styles, seem destined for a unification bout that promises considerable excitement.

WBA world champion Martinez (18-0, 9 KOs) is widely regarded as possibly the most challenging opponent for Rodriguez at 115 pounds, noted for his strength and persistent pressure up close.

The 33-year-old Martinez recently secured his second consecutive victory over Japanese veteran Kazuto Ioka via unanimous decision, maintaining his undefeated record. Although he faced a scare with a tenth-round knockdown in their first meeting, Martinez confirmed his status at the elite level in the rematch this month.

On the other side, WBC champion Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) is set to face WBO belt holder Phumelela Cafu in an intriguing unification fight scheduled for July 19.

The highly-rated Rodriguez has earned a reputation as a `legend slayer` in the lower weight classes through his recent performances.

His knockout victories against former world champions Juan Francisco Estrada and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai highlight why the 25-year-old has become one of the sport`s must-see attractions.

Adding to this, an eighth-round stoppage of Sunny Edwards demonstrates how Rodriguez has convincingly made his mark across two notable divisions.

However, before a potential showdown with Martinez can materialize, the American champion must first overcome the formidable challenge presented by Cafu.

“It`s the natural fight,” stated Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Rodriguez. “If you`re Martinez right now, that`s the money fight in the division.”

Hearn acknowledged previous difficulties: “[Team Martinez has] got to be realistic as well – we tried to make that fight before but couldn’t quite make the numbers work.”

Despite this, Hearn expressed his view on Rodriguez`s immediate challenge and future prospects: “I think Cafu’s the toughest fight in the division, to be honest, but I expect ‘Bam’ to come through and fight ‘Puma’ next.”
