Gervonta “Tank” Davis has said he wants to fight Lamont Roach Jr. again right away. This comes after Davis suggested he would fight someone else next.
In their recent fight, Roach, with a record of 25 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws, and 10 knockouts, gave Davis a tough fight. It was only the third time Davis went the full distance in his career. The fight ended in a draw that some people found questionable.
The two boxers fought at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight was the main event on an Amazon Prime pay-per-view show.
Davis, whose record is 30 wins, 0 losses, 1 draw, and 28 knockouts, was expected to win easily. However, Roach was the one who seemed most upset with how the judges scored the fight.
During the ninth round, the referee, Steve Willis, started counting when Davis went down on one knee. But then, he quickly said it wasn’t a knockdown after Davis got back up.
This moment has been heavily debated, as Roach could have gotten a 10-8 round, which might have changed the fight’s outcome in his favor.
After keeping his WBA lightweight title, Davis told reporters that a rematch was probably not next on his list.
He even hinted that even though he wanted to fight Roach again, he already had another opponent in mind for his next fight.
But now, in a reply to a post from Roach on social media platform X, Davis has stated strongly that he is trying to make the rematch happen.
He wrote in a message online, using strong language, that he is “pushing for the rematch.”
Gilberto Mendoza, the president of the WBA, has also said that a rematch between Davis and Roach should be the next fight.
