Dana White: Conor McGregor Not Fighting Soon

Sports news » Dana White: Conor McGregor Not Fighting Soon

UFC President Dana White is currently not planning for Conor McGregor`s return to the octagon in the near future.

In a recent conversation with Adam Glyn, White was asked for an update on McGregor, who has been out of action since sustaining a broken leg during his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

Although White had previously indicated optimism about “The Notorious” potentially competing again in 2025, he now suggests that the timeline for the UFC superstar is uncertain.

“He’s not fighting anytime soon,” White stated. “I haven’t talked to him in a minute, but yeah, I don’t know.”

McGregor`s path back to fighting has faced several complications. Besides pursuing opportunities outside the sport, including a prominent role in the 2024 remake of Road House, McGregor also suffered a toe injury which led to the cancellation of his scheduled bout against Michael Chandler planned for June.

Furthermore, the 36-year-old fighter was recently found liable for sexual assault in a civil lawsuit stemming from a 2018 incident in Dublin and is currently involved in another civil suit alleging sexual assault in Miami from 2023.

While McGregor has shared training clips on his social media, it remains unclear if this genuinely indicates a strong desire to return to active competition.

Looking ahead, White emphasized that he is constantly scouting for new talent but does not anticipate any fighter replicating the unique trajectory of Conor McGregor.

“There will never be another Conor McGregor,” White said. “There will be another superstar that pops up, but there will never be another Conor McGregor. There will never be another Ronda Rousey, there will never be another Chuck Liddell, ‘GSP.’ Somebody will pop up.”

White added, “They make themselves. A hundred percent. We find people who have talent and obviously if you have the personality that all those other people have that we were just talking about, that’s incredible, but I’m always just looking for the best fighters in the world and the rest is up to them.”
