UFC CEO Dana White has officially confirmed that Ian Machado Garry will serve as the backup fighter for the upcoming welterweight championship clash at UFC 315. The title bout is scheduled for May 10 in Canada and features Belal Muhammad challenging Jack Della Maddalena.

Garry himself revealed this possibility shortly after his main event victory over Carlos Prates at UFC Kansas City. He stated his intention to fly to Montreal next month to make the required weight and be ready to step in if anything were to happen to either fighter in the main event.

During his post-fight interview, Garry highlighted his willingness to take fights on short notice, referencing recent opponents. He then announced, “In two weeks’ time, I’m flying to Canada. I’m the official backup for the world title fight, and I’m next in line for that world title!”

When asked about Garry’s statement during the subsequent UFC Kansas City post-fight press conference, Dana White simply confirmed the information, stating, “It’s official.”

White also offered praise for Garry`s readiness, adding, “Credit to Ian, takes these fights on short notice. He’ll fight anybody. He looked good tonight.”

Belal Muhammad is set to defend his 170-pound championship against Jack Della Maddalena, who enters the contest on an impressive 17-fight winning streak, including seven victories within the UFC.

Garry`s only professional loss came in a decision defeat to Shavkat Rakhmonov last December, a fight he accepted on short notice. The Irish prospect had previously won eight consecutive bouts in the promotion and has now returned to the win column with his decision victory over Prates.
