Conor McGregor is once again generating significant interest regarding his potential comeback to the UFC octagon. After an absence of nearly four years from competition, the sport`s biggest star is now discussing the specific requirements necessary for his return.
In the wake of the recent business success of WrestleMania 41 held in Las Vegas, McGregor took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to state a key condition for his return to fighting: “I`ll only come back to a stadium,” he posted.
McGregor had previously been scheduled to headline UFC 303 against Michael Chandler in June as the opposing coach from The Ultimate Fighter reality show. This highly anticipated fight was unfortunately cancelled just weeks before the event after McGregor sustained a toe injury.
Following his post about requiring a stadium, McGregor sent a direct message to Chandler. “Iron Mike Chandler. Unfinished business,” McGregor wrote, referencing their postponed bout.
Michael Chandler quickly responded, making it clear he is fully on board with the idea. Shortly after McGregor`s posts, the former Bellator champion indicated his strong interest by writing, “Unfinished business loading….” Chandler further elaborated on other platforms, expressing his readiness to fight and emphasizing the importance of keeping one`s word.
McGregor has been sidelined since suffering a severe leg injury in his last fight, a stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. During this long period away from the cage, the former two-division champion has engaged in various other ventures, including acquiring part-ownership in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) and publicly expressing aspirations to run for President of Ireland.
Meanwhile, Michael Chandler`s most recent outing was at UFC 314 earlier this month, where he suffered a TKO defeat against Paddy Pimblett.
