Sports news ยป Conor Benn Offers Chris Eubank Jr Rematch Update

Conor Benn appears confident that his agreed-upon rematch with Chris Eubank Jr will indeed proceed as planned.

The two boxers faced off in an action-packed fight late last month, resulting in Eubank (35-3, 25 KOs) securing a unanimous decision victory with three scorecards of 116-112.

Despite the loss, Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) delivered a tremendous effort, pushing his opponent hard and solidifying his position as a fierce contender.

His resilience was particularly notable, as his chin proved exceptionally durable during the final two rounds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. There, “The Destroyer” withstood a brutal barrage from the significantly more experienced Eubank.

Beyond Eubank`s greater experience, Benn also contended with a clear size disadvantage, having moved up 13 pounds from the weight class he considers his most natural.

Following the fight, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn indicated his interest in seeing the 28-year-old Benn potentially return to welterweight or super-welterweight divisions during the post-fight press conference.

However, with the terms for their rematch reportedly remaining consistent, according to Hearn, it seems likely the pair will meet in the ring again later this year.

“As far as I`m aware, the contracts have already been signed,” Benn mentioned on DAZN`s Ariel and Ade show. “I`m hearing September [at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium], or Wembley [Stadium] maybe.”

Given the presence of a rematch clause, it`s anticipated that Eubank will likely be required to adhere to a rehydration limit, similar to the 10lb cap imposed before their first bout.

Although his weight post-weigh-in was a point of discussion, it also appeared that the 35-year-old Eubank`s initial effort to make the 160lb limit was not entirely straightforward.

Nevertheless, unless the existing contracts contain a specific loophole, it is expected that both the agreed weight and the rehydration clause will remain in effect for their upcoming second encounter.
