Chris Eubank Jr. has been severely penalized after throwing an egg at his rival Conor Benn during a recent press conference.

The two boxers engaged in a war of words when they met in Manchester, England, to promote their upcoming middleweight fight scheduled for April 26.

Their fight was initially set for 2022 but was cancelled after Benn, with a record of 23 wins and no losses (14 knockouts), failed two tests conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) for the banned substance clomiphene.

Since then, Benn, known as ‘The Destroyer’, has been cleared to compete by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) and, crucially, has had his boxing license reinstated by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC).

However, a clear explanation regarding the presence of clomiphene in Benn’s system has not been provided yet, as an NAPD confidentiality policy restricts the disclosure of relevant information.

Interestingly, the WBC previously suggested a peculiar explanation following Benn’s positive tests, implying that increased egg consumption could be the cause of his infraction.

While Benn quickly dismissed this attempt to exonerate him, Eubank Jr. seemed to draw inspiration from the WBC’s statement when he threw an egg at Benn two weeks prior to receiving his punishment.

As a consequence of this action, the BBBC has fined Eubank £100,000 for violating Regulation 25 (misconduct) of their established rules.

Despite the significant fine, it’s unlikely to trouble Eubank greatly, given the substantial earnings both fighters are expected to receive from their forthcoming match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
