Chris Eubank Jr. faced significant consequences after failing to make weight for his much-anticipated clash with Conor Benn, scheduled for Saturday in London as the main event of Fatal Fury.
During the official weigh-ins on Friday, Eubank initially weighed 0.2 pounds over the contracted 160-pound limit. His second attempt was slightly better at 160.05 pounds, but still exceeded the mark by 0.05 pounds. As a result, Eubank incurred a substantial fine of $500,000 (£375,000), as stipulated by a “weight clause” in his contract.
Adding to the requirements, Eubank must also stay below 170 pounds during a secondary weigh-in on fight day Saturday.
Following the news of the missed weight and fine, Conor Benn, who successfully made weight at 156.4 pounds, reacted on his Twitter page, appearing visibly pleased by the development.
“Show me the motherf*cking money,” Benn posted.
Eubank also shared his thoughts on the situation via his Instagram page.
“Pain is temporary… glory is forever,” Eubank wrote.
This grudge match between Eubank and Benn has encountered several hurdles in the lead-up to the London event, and its status reportedly remains uncertain depending on Eubank`s adherence to the fight-day weight limit. The 35-year-old Eubank is coming off two consecutive knockout victories, while the 28-year-old Benn boasts an undefeated professional record of 23-0.
Benn`s upcoming bout will be his first appearance in 14 months, following a decision victory over Peter Dobson in February 2024.
