Catterall Aiming For Ring Return in July

Following a strong 2024, Jack Catterall`s attempt to secure a second world title shot was unfortunately unsuccessful in February. Despite this setback, the boxer from Lancashire remains a significant competitor in the super-lightweight division and is preparing for another title challenge. His team is currently discussing a fight date for “El Gato`s” return, aiming for July.

Catterall, with a record of 30 wins and 2 losses, including 13 knockouts, is remembered for a contentious split-decision defeat against Josh Taylor, the then-undisputed champion. Many observers believed Catterall was unfairly denied the world title in that fight.

After rebounding with two victories, Catterall solidified his position as a top contender in 2024. He avenged his loss to Taylor in a rematch and achieved a dominant win over former two-time world champion Regis Prograis, paving the way for another shot at super-lightweight gold.

In February, Catterall fought against the previously undefeated Arnold Barboza Jr. for the WBO interim title in front of his home crowd. The goal was to win and then challenge WBO champion Teofimo Lopez for the world title.

Despite strong fan support, Catterall lost by split decision, marking his second career defeat by this margin. Barboza earned the opportunity to fight Lopez for the world title, with that bout scheduled for May 2 in New York.

However, Catterall is still highly ranked, holding the world #4 position with both the WBO and WBC. He may be just one victory away from another chance at a super-lightweight world title. His manager, Sam Jones, indicated in a recent online Q&A that Catterall is expected to return to the ring in July.

Speculation surrounds Catterall`s next opponent. Fellow British boxer Harlem Eubank, who is undefeated with 21 wins, has publicly expressed interest in a British showdown with Catterall. This potential fight could be at welterweight for Catterall or a return to super-lightweight for Eubank, who has recently competed at welterweight.

Jones also mentioned that another of his fighters, Pat Brown, will have his second professional fight in June, following a successful debut with a knockout victory last month.
