Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez has expressed his support for TKO’s expansion into the world of boxing.

Earlier this week, Dana White, CEO of UFC, and Turki Alalshikh announced their partnership to launch a new boxing league under the TKO banner. Details are still emerging, but the announcement has been considered a significant development for boxing. Alvarez believes this move is positive for the sport.

“If it’s beneficial for the fighters, I’m all for it,” Alvarez told CBS Sports’ Brian Campbell. “I believe TKO will prioritize the fighters, which is crucial. Many promoters don’t adequately care for fighters. This initiative is good for boxing and especially for the fighters.”

Alvarez, a prominent figure in boxing, recently signed a multi-fight promotional agreement with Alalshikh. The current unified super middleweight champion aims to become undisputed champion when he faces William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh. Alvarez hinted at the possibility of his subsequent fight being the inaugural major event for the TKO brand.

“September in Las Vegas is always a potential date for me, and everyone is aware of that. However, my focus is first on the May fight. After that, we will consider September. There’s a chance my September fight in Las Vegas could be the first event promoted by TKO,” Alvarez stated.

With an impressive record of 62-2-2, Alvarez remains a top-ranked pound-for-pound boxer. He last defended his titles with a victory over Edgar Berlanga in September.
