Ben Whittaker Downplays Importance of Liam Cameron Rematch
British boxer Ben Whittaker is taking a nonchalant approach to his highly anticipated rematch with Liam Cameron, describing it as “just another fight” and stating he has no emotional investment in the bout.
The pair’s initial encounter in October 2024 ended in controversy, with a sixth-round technical draw after both fighters fell out of the ring. Cameron, who entered as a significant underdog, felt robbed of a potential upset victory when Whittaker was unable to continue due to injury.
Set for Easter Sunday, six months after their first clash, Cameron will get another shot at Whittaker. However, Whittaker remains unfazed by the hype surrounding the rematch.
“For me, it’s simply another fight,” Whittaker stated. “Cameron is more emotionally invested than I am, which is understandable given the newfound attention he’s received. Our previous match was far from our best, but April 20th is what truly matters now. I’ll emerge victorious and move on.”
Whittaker added, “I feel no pressure whatsoever. I’ve faced much more challenging situations. There’s only one outcome – winning. That’s all there is to it: win and progress.”
In response, Cameron, who maintained a smile throughout Whittaker’s comments at the press conference, said: “I appreciate this new Ben Whittaker – he’s not taking the bait. I knew he’d have to accept the rematch due to public demand. I’ve been preparing specifically for him. He has a lot to prove, so the pressure is on him.”
The highly anticipated rematch is scheduled to take place on Easter Sunday, with both fighters looking to settle the score definitively.
