Sports news ยป Belal Muhammad Comments After UFC 315 Title Loss

Belal Muhammad is already focusing on the future following a disappointing defeat in his initial title defense.

Known as “Remember the Name,” Muhammad lost his welterweight championship to Jack Della Maddalena in the intense five-round main event at UFC 315. The judges unanimously favored Della Maddalena, with two scorecards being a close 48-47.

Later that Saturday, Muhammad used social media to share his thoughts on the loss and his plans moving forward.

“Allah`s plan is the best plan,” Muhammad posted. “Alhamdulillah for everything. Thank you to all my supporters. I`ve been in this position before, and I will return.”

This defeat marks Muhammad`s first in over six years, his previous loss being a unanimous decision against Geoff Neal. He had a remarkable 11-fight unbeaten streak, which included a 2021 no-contest with Leon Edwards caused by an accidental eye poke. Muhammad later decisively defeated Edwards at UFC 304 to claim the welterweight title.

Regrettably, Muhammad must now regroup after his unsuccessful title defense. An immediate rematch seems unlikely, especially with his friend and training partner, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, potentially targeting the welterweight division, and numerous strong contenders vying for a title shot.

Potential future opponents for Muhammad include the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov (whom Muhammad was set to fight at UFC 310 before withdrawing due to injury), Ian Machado Garry, or Sean Brady (against whom Muhammad previously won). The outcomes of upcoming fights, such as Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales or Kamaru Usman vs. Joaquin Buckley, could also influence his path.
