Sports news ยป Belal Muhammad Addresses Absence of Palestine Flag on UFC Profile, Eagerly Awaits Title Defense with Flag

Belal Muhammad, a dedicated representative of Palestine in the UFC, is requesting the promotion to correct an issue on his official UFC website profile.

Unlike other UFC athletes who have flags of their home countries displayed next to their names on the UFC website, Muhammad noticed that his profile lacked any flag. He appealed to UFC CEO Dana White via social media to resolve this, especially considering White’s stance on fighters’ freedom to carry flags to the octagon.

Muhammad explained in a video message that he has been receiving numerous inquiries about the missing flag and initially thought it was an oversight. He hopes Dana White will address and rectify the situation, aligning with White’s declared support for free speech and individual expression.

Muhammad emphasizes the importance of having the Palestinian flag on his profile to represent and honor the people he fights for and represents as champion.

Born in the United States to Palestinian parents, Muhammad has consistently voiced his support for Palestinians affected by the Gaza conflict. He has also proudly carried the Palestinian flag in his previous UFC fights.

Muhammad has previously expressed his enthusiasm to carry the Palestinian flag into the octagon for his first title defense at UFC 315 in May against Jack Della Maddalena.

For Muhammad, carrying the flag as champion is a source of pride for Palestinians, offering them a symbol of representation and something aspirational for young people.

After his championship victory over Leon Edwards, Muhammad was deeply moved by celebratory videos and photos from Palestine, reinforcing his commitment to represent Palestine in the UFC.

Muhammad shared that he received a video showing a refugee camp in Palestine watching his fight and celebrating his victory. He dedicates his fights to these resilient individuals, finding inspiration in their strength and gratitude amidst hardship.

He contrasts his 25-minute fight with the daily struggles faced by Palestinians, emphasizing their resilience and appreciation for life in the face of adversity, which he finds deeply humbling.
