Arsenal Women Promote Cervical Cancer Awareness in North London Derby
Arsenal Women’s football team is lending its support to the ‘Secure Your Future’ initiative, which aims to assist the National Health Service in eradicating cervical cancer by 2040. The campaign, launched by MSD UK in partnership with The Eve Appeal, will be highlighted during this weekend’s women’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners plan to utilize their platform to share important messages throughout the match day, encouraging fans to seek information from their general practitioners or visit the campaign’s website. Several Arsenal players, including Leah Williamson, Katie McCabe, Kyra Cooney-Cross, and Manu Zinsberger, are featured in the campaign materials.
England forward Beth Mead, whose mother sadly passed away from ovarian cancer two years ago, is also participating in the initiative. Mead emphasized the importance of raising awareness about cervical cancer, stating, “It’s crucial that we highlight this issue among women and girls. People sometimes underestimate the significance of regular screenings.”
Arsenal vice-captain Williamson added, “This week is about representing Arsenal and our community. It’s also an opportunity to unite in protecting our health and loved ones against cervical cancer. We know that most cases can be prevented, and we must work together to safeguard our futures.”
MSD UK & Ireland’s managing director expressed hope that the campaign will encourage open discussions about this critical health issue. The Eve Appeal’s CEO noted that eliminating cervical cancer is within reach and could save thousands of lives annually in the UK.
By leveraging the popularity of women’s football, particularly through their collaboration with Arsenal Women, the campaign aims to engage diverse communities across the United Kingdom in meaningful conversations about cervical cancer prevention and early detection.
