Anthony Yarde Aims for Another British Showdown After Lyndon Arthur Trilogy
Anthony Yarde is eyeing a clash with the victor of an upcoming all-British light heavyweight contest, provided he emerges victorious from his own bout on April 26.
Yarde is set to complete his first career trilogy when he faces Lyndon Arthur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, featured on the undercard of the Chris Eubank-Conor Benn fight.
Despite a commendable performance against Artur Beterbiev in January 2023, Yarde’s return to world-class competition has been delayed. Recent victories over lesser-known opponents Jorge Silva, Marko Nikolic, and Ralfs Vilcans have done little to boost his global rankings, with the Londoner currently positioned second in the WBO, fourth in both IBF and WBC, and third in the WBA.
Regarding the upcoming Beterbiev-Bivol rematch on February 22, Yarde commented, “The initial encounter was akin to a high-level chess match. This time, if Beterbiev targets the body, he might secure a stoppage.”
Yarde anticipates his third meeting with Arthur to generate significant hype and entertainment. However, the 33-year-old is already looking ahead to potentially facing another British opponent in 2025.
On the undercard of the Beterbiev-Bivol fight, Joshua Buatsi and Callum Smith will engage in a crucial light heavyweight clash, with the winner potentially earning a world title shot. When asked about this matchup, Yarde cautioned, “Smith shouldn’t be underestimated. May the superior fighter prevail.”
When questioned if he would be interested in facing the Buatsi-Smith winner, Yarde emphatically responded, “Absolutely.”
