Anthony Smith Clarifies Situation with Rampage Jackson, Calls It a Misunderstanding

UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has addressed the recent tension between himself and MMA veteran Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Smith expressed surprise at Jackson’s strong reaction to his comments and sought to clear the air.

The conflict arose after Smith criticized the way Jackson and his podcast co-host discuss fighters on their show. Jackson responded with threats, stating he would confront Smith physically if they met.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Smith explained that he had reached out to Jackson privately to resolve the issue. He stated, “I believe Rampage and I had a misunderstanding in this situation. I was shocked by his anger, as I had deliberately chosen my words carefully when speaking about him out of respect.”

Smith attributed the misunderstanding to the nature of long-form podcast discussions, where nuances can be lost and certain comments may be taken out of context. He emphasized that he never intended to create tension with Jackson, whom he considers a personal hero in the sport.

“Rampage has been my favorite fighter since I was a teenager,” Smith revealed. “He embodies the success and fighting style I’ve always aspired to. I would never intentionally create issues with him.”

Despite a mock fight poster circulating on social media, Smith maintains that he and Jackson have resolved their differences through private communication. He reiterated his admiration for Jackson, stating that meeting him in person lived up to his expectations.

Smith concluded by affirming that he and Jackson are on good terms, emphasizing his desire to avoid any further conflict with the respected veteran fighter.
