Anthony Joshua Praises Dave Allen’s Title Win Over Johnny Fisher

Sports news » Anthony Joshua Praises Dave Allen’s Title Win Over Johnny Fisher

Dave Allen, known as `The White Rhino` from Doncaster, achieved the most significant victory of his career last night, stopping the previously undefeated `Romford Bull` Johnny Fisher in the fifth round at the Copper Box Arena. The 33-year-old heavyweight`s dominant performance secured him the WBA Inter-Continental belt, capping a remarkable turnaround for a fighter many had previously written off.

This compelling rematch followed their controversial draw just five months earlier. Despite being friends outside the ring, Allen and Fisher set their bond aside for a hard-fought contest. Allen`s devastating power proved decisive, ultimately flooring Fisher and bringing an end to his flawless professional record. The victory, Allen`s 34th pro fight, not only marked his acquisition of a first major title but also represented a profound personal triumph following years battling addiction and mental health challenges.

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who has previously shared sparring rounds with Allen, was quick to laud `The White Rhino`s` impressive resurgence. Posting on Instagram recently (May 17), Joshua highlighted Allen`s journey, stating:

“Dave was suicidal, a gambling addict who everyone thought was finished a few years ago. Now he’s got a family, a few hundred thousand pounds, and his biggest win. BOXING.”

At 35, Joshua himself understands the path of overcoming setbacks. The two-time unified champion, who suffered a fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley, recently told DAZN`s Claudio Trejos in Riyadh that he will be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to elbow surgery. He indicated his focus remains sharp, adding:

“Once I’m healed, I’ll be back doing what I do best: working on my double jabs, triple jabs, head movement, and footwork. We’ll stay active.”
