Lightweight sensation Abdullah Mason, boasting a perfect record of 17 wins with 15 knockouts, is rapidly climbing the world rankings. At just 20 years old, this 135-pound fighter is recognized as a top prospect in boxing. He is expected to secure another knockout victory in his upcoming fight.

However, another ambitious lightweight contender has challenged Mason, proposing a highly anticipated match.

Since turning professional in late 2021, Mason has been consistently active and is now facing increasingly challenging opponents. His impressive knockout of Manuel Jaimes in February solidified his reputation as a future world champion.

Currently holding the WBC #7 and WBO #8 rankings, the southpaw from Ohio is close to a world title opportunity. Abdullah is scheduled to fight Carlos Ornelas of Mexico, with a record of 28 wins and 4 losses, in Las Vegas this weekend.

Despite his growing fame and anticipated success, Andy Cruz, another highly regarded lightweight, has called out Abdullah Mason. Cruz is a three-time amateur world champion and a Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist, with a professional record of 5 wins.

Similar to Mason, Cruz has quickly ascended the rankings since his professional debut in July 2023. In just five fights, he has positioned himself as a top-three contender in three of the major boxing organizations` rankings.

Cruz stated on social media that Mason was offered the fight before his bout with Ornelas, urging Mason to sign the contract.

‘Diamond’ Cruz has also openly challenged Keyshawn Davis, a former amateur rival, and Edwin De Los Santos, a recent world title challenger. Cruz is expected to compete for world titles within the next year and a half, with the IBF route appearing to be the most probable path to a recognized championship.

Mason`s fight with Ornelas will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK and ESPN in the USA, preceding the main event clash between Torrez and Vianello.
