A notable flyweight bout has been added to the upcoming UFC Vegas 109 card, set for August 9th. Veteran competitors Alex Perez and Steve Erceg are slated to compete against each other at the event. This card is also expected to feature a middleweight fight between Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez in the main event spot, as previously reported.

Despite both fighters holding positions within the top 15 of the MMA Fighting Global Rankings – Perez at #10 and Erceg at #12 – both former title challengers are currently experiencing a downturn in their recent performances and are in urgent need of a victory to regain momentum.

Alex Perez (25-9) has struggled significantly in his recent fights, securing only one win in his last five outings. He managed to halt a three-fight losing streak, which included a defeat to then-flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, with a knockout win over Matheus Nicolau. However, his most recent fight in June 2024 against Tatsura Taira ended in another loss after he sustained a knee injury.

Similarly, Steve Erceg (12-4) is also currently on a losing run that began after a title opportunity. The Australian contender was defeated by champion Alexandra Pantoja in a competitive decision at UFC 301 and subsequently lost his following two contests against Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno.
