Impressively, all of his championship victories have come by knockout, including wins over Khalil Rountree Jr., Jiri Prochazka, and Jamahal Hill. A victory against Ankalaev would not only solidify his pound-for-pound ranking but could also pave the way for a potential challenge for the heavyweight title against either Jon Jones or interim champion Tom Aspinall.
Ankalaev’s record stands at 11-1-1 with 1 no contest, and he hasn’t experienced a defeat since his UFC debut in March 2018. Apart from a submission loss to Paul Craig in a fight he was otherwise dominating, Ankalaev is unbeaten in his last 13 fights. This streak includes a majority draw against Jan Blachowicz in his first attempt to win the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 282. Now, Ankalaev has another opportunity to become champion by defeating Pereira and significantly impacting the pound-for-pound rankings.
