Abdullah Mason Provides Perspective on Stevenson-Schofield Bout Following Sparring Sessions

Emerging lightweight talent Abdullah Mason, boasting a 16-0 record with 14 knockouts, has gained valuable experience sparring with both Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield. As Schofield prepares to challenge Stevenson for the world title, Mason shares his insights on the upcoming bout.

Mason, who turned professional at just 17, recalls his sparring sessions with WBC lightweight champion Stevenson as enlightening. “It was great work and helped me gauge my progress,” Mason stated. “I could tell I was still developing physically compared to Stevenson’s stamina and endurance.”

Regarding his sparring with Schofield, Mason clarifies that they only shared one round in the ring. He disputes claims that Schofield hurt him, explaining, “We had a brief encounter during a round-robin session. They opted to stop after one round, though we were willing to continue.”

Looking ahead to the Stevenson-Schofield fight, Mason predicts a victory for Stevenson. His main concern is the potential impact on a future matchup if Stevenson dominates Schofield. “If Stevenson wins convincingly, it might diminish interest in a potential fight between Schofield and myself,” Mason explained.

As Stevenson and Schofield prepare for their world title clash, Mason focuses on his own career progression. He’s set to face Manuel Jaimes in an eight-round bout, aiming to achieve what Rolando Romero couldn’t by securing a stoppage victory.
